028 - This cheese doesn't melt

Fairly exciting to see a frozen vegan pizza that is also gluten free. This means it can please both Kara and her friend Amanda. I'd be happier if it were using Teese Vegan Cheese, which actually melts!

026 - Abs & Mabes

These are the offspring of my good friends Jennifer and Jay. We handnt seen them since our wedding. It had been even longer since we had seem Mabel, who is the younger of the two. Both had grown up so much since the last time. Its amazing to see personalities come out more and more. I don't always see this with Matilda because I'm so close to her so it was strange to walk up to these girls and expect to see the same little ones and I'm greeted by kids who felt years older than the last time.

025 - Snow, still????

You can't really tell from the picture but it snowed today. We are like a week into spring and it snows???? I love Chicago and this is part of the reason why. Its instability gives me plenty of reason to bitch and moan.

There were far better moments to take pictures today and this is the lousy one I ended up with. Slacker.

022 - This is what I saw for over six hours today

Midwest. Back roads. I let the navigation system take me on all sorts of back woods type roads, just for grins and giggles. I had a fresh oil change and nowhere to be at no specific time. Just taking Matilda home and completing the circle back to Chicago.

019 - Epic Games of Monopoly

Matilda and I get into these cut throat epic games of Monopoly every now and again. This is the aftermath of day one. Both of us are pretty sore losers but I'm an even worse winner. Bad news bears.

016 - got it back!

Illinois(e) is silly. You get a run of the mill traffic ticket (in my case, turning on a red light at a no turn on red - twice in one year getting caught) and they hold your license until you pay the fine. Took almost a month but I finally got it back!

I look like a total thug in my picture.

Last in the bits of photos taken from my parents town. This is the farm down the road from my parents. I partied with those cows before. True story.

013 - Not Mine

On Saturday morning Kara and I were in the town I grew up in to meet up with Matilda and her Mom. The coffee place we met up at was down the street from what used to be the smaller of the bakeries my Dad runs (the small building on the lower left of the photo). You can't really notice it but on the building are all these little rocks attached to the wall. At a young age my Dad had convinced me that he had paid someone a quarter to glue on each rock. One rich dude I bet!

I don't know how I never noticed the painted billboard on the building on the top left of the photo. IT'S MY NAME! I've been by here probably thousands of times during my first 20 years of life but somehow this never stuck with me?

012 - Hells Yeah

This is from my parents refrigerator. I have no idea how old it is but I can't remember a time where this didn't exist and wasn't on display. It's totally true.

I wish i could remember what the sticker residue on the top right is from.

011 - New haircut

Last night I gave myself a haircut. I'm pretty happy with it. Kara got upset that I didn't go to Amie but I really wanted it shorter now. I was stuck in that poofy long hair phase and it had to go.

010 - Me and DMC

I'm doing a pretty poor job of taking photos for this, and I missed a day!

Here's an oldie from a few months back. I was in Vegas for work and I spent a few days roaming around CES where I ran into this fella! I had to do a double take and a few walk around to confirm that it was indeed Mr. DMC. Pretty stoked to meet someone I've been listening to for over 20 years! Seemed like a very nice man. I wish I could have spent more time getting to know him as opposed to the whole star/fan encounter at a trade show thing.

002 - Tuesday March 4, 2008

I'm nail biting tonight watching the election results. CNN just projected Ohio to Clinton and Texas is running intensely close. Soon I'll head off to bed but I think I'll keep the TV on to CNN to occasionally wake up in the middle of the night to hear the latest news. It's an awful habit I picked up after Sept 11, 2001 and continued on with Hurricane Katrina and a few other points between and after. Overall the habit of having the TV on as I go to sleep has been with me for over half my life though. Tonight I'm thinking of not setting the sleep timer. Energy waster? You bet. Horrible sleeper? Definitely.

001 - Monday March 3, 2008

This is Baxter. Sometimes when we leave for work in the morning he'll run to the door and jump up here and wait for us to open the door so he can jump down and go out into the stairwell. He'll sniff around and when he hears a noise he'll run back in. He never makes it too far.

This morning he chose to just stay in. This is my goodbye moment to him this morning.

Inspiration!
Seriously... Keeping a blog is pretty difficult. I just don't necessarily think about putting stuff on here. I don't have enough of a captive audience to post random links of cool stuff. What's the point really?

Inspired by a few things going on in my life and a great Flickr series I recently went through from my new friend Steve Wade I've decided to do a picture a day for 365 days. I would also like to start a series of interviewing people I meet or know about why they love Chicago. Some people will live here and some might not live here. I don't know how it will turn out or if I'll really follow through with it but it's something I want to do. This was inspired by the old interviews I used to read in K Composite magazine with regular people.

I'm curious to see where these experiments leads me.

why "live in chicago"?
Joan of Arc made a record called "Live in Chicago" and I thought was really good with good artwork and good songs. When I started doing this I had envisioned that it would be focused primarily on my home thus "Live in Chicago" became the title. I've always liked it because I've never known if it was "live" like "I live in Chicago" or "live" like "I saw that band live". I live in Chicago thus it's that "live in Chicago". Hi.
