Tuesday, January 23, 2007 Trip To My Parents House
Took a weekend trip to my parents house. The plan was pretty simple. Wii. Movie. Wii. Wii. Wii. Matilda and I did not have many goals. Really just to play the Wii. The movie was just a distraction so that we didn't feel like total dorks. At least that's how I looked at it. She probably just wanted to play the Wii.
We picked up a family member (Cole) and our first stop was to hit this burger place in my old home town that I loved when I was little. Absolutely letdown. I hate having these high expectations based on memories then going back years later and being completely bummed. The little ones seemed to enjoy it though. ![]() ![]() ![]() When Cole saw me pull out my camera he immediately went straight to pulling his shirt out to show it off. He never referenced it, just pulled it forward and as soon as the picture was taken he carried on. ![]() ![]() I really liked these signs. Unfortunately it was the best thing about being there. ![]() Aight... So down to business. Wii. I asked them to give me a sweet pose and Cole was immediately into it. Matilda was not. Being so pre-teen she's not so easy to coerce into being goofy. ![]() After Wii and after the movie we headed out to see my sisters husbands band play. He's my brother in-law, yes... I think that sounds weird to say. And since he saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night I think it's more fitting to say "my sisters husband" even though i wish i could tack on "best friends sisters boyfriend". I'm sure I butchered that. Anyways, Matilda was shy but enjoyed herself. I've taken her to many shows over the course of her life but this was the first time she's been to one and felt some sort of a connection (her uncle on stage) and even recognized some of the people in the audience. ![]() And Sunday.. . ended with some pretty snow covering my parents yard.
Wednesday, January 17, 2007 sub pop singles club ![]() super stoked to have found this (via link from pastepunk) Sub Pop Singles Club: A Retrospective the have a link to 50 of the songs from over the years. i sat on this when the second round of the singles club happened and didn't subscribe even though i had the money (i was too young and broke the first time around). the only one i ever had was the get up kids single but sold that on ebay years later for some quick cash. anyways, just wanted to give another link to a well done look back at something that was awesome.

On Saturday night I was dying to break into this cupcake book I bought Kara for Christmas. I found something with orange in it and started thinking about those awesome orange rolls I used to get from the grocery store. Did a quick search and found a vegan version for both Kara and I. Below you'll see all the ingredients laid out for my quick work. The dough was pretty easy to make except I didn't take into consideration that I'm apparently a bit of a dumbass and put the dough in the refrigerator to rise which killed it. So.... No orange rolls in the morning for me and Kara.
Also note in the photo below our new pot rack. We picked it up the weekend before and I slaved over the 5 minute installation of it. It looks good on a wall that was previously open and empty. Also note that I'm watching Empire Records. A recent $4.99 DVD purchase. ![]() On Sunday morning we got up early and channeled our disappointment by heading to Target & Best Buy in search of a Wii. Failure on both ends as neither store are getting any in for a while. So we headed to Bleeding Heart Bakery for some breakfast. ![]() ![]() Then later in the evening 24 came on and Jack Bauer came on and killed a dude by biting his neck.
Friday, January 12, 2007 Karyn's Cooked - Beat Kitchen ![]() Went to Karyn's tonight with Kara after work. I'm a fan, Kara is not so much a fan. She's the vegan, I'm the rapper. Anyways, the meal is just the precursor to the main event. A necessary evil, if you will. I had the raw plate. Kara had some nacho plate thing which I didn't try and didn't bother taking a picture of. ![]() So yeah, the main event... I had the cheesecake with raspberry sauce. It was a tofu style cheesecake and brought me back to the old school Chicago Diner cheesecake which I kinda liked. Karyn's had a great graham cracker crust. Diggin'. ![]() Kara got this fine nugget. Chocolate cream pie. I ate half of it for her because she's a light weight. I would love to know how they make the cream topping. Somehow it's vegan but just as rich and creamy and perfect as the real thing. ![]() I laid down in bed at about 10:30 and this guy sent me a txt to go have a drink so we headed out. My initial destination of choice was Delilah's for a sampling of their crazy Whiskey selection but this guy has switched to a new drink of choice. This led us to The Beat Kitchen. ![]() I didn't have one of these but Pdex did. Maybe he had a few. |
why "live in chicago"? Joan of Arc made a record called "Live in Chicago" and I thought was really good with good artwork and good songs. When I started doing this I had envisioned that it would be focused primarily on my home thus "Live in Chicago" became the title. I've always liked it because I've never known if it was "live" like "I live in Chicago" or "live" like "I saw that band live". I live in Chicago thus it's that "live in Chicago".
